What is a hangnail and how do I treat it?
You know that annoying piece of skin sticking out of side of your nail that basically catches on everything you touch, especially when your hands are going in your pockets. Its called a hangnail and its usually the result of dry skin. While youre maybe tempted to divide if off, youll end up taking of extra skin and you could get a painful infection. The best way to remove it is with a pair of clean nail scissors or cuticle clippers. To prevent hangnails, make sure to moisturize your cuticles everyday using hand cream or cuticle oil. There is no difference between hangnails on the hands and feet. Treat them both the same.
Is biting my nails a bad habit and how do I stop?
Aside from leaving your nails looking and feeling rabid, biting your nails can lead to infection. Your hands are constantly exposed to dirt and bacteria on the metro, at work, at home. When you bite your nails, youre putting bacteria in your mouth and it can make you sick. You can also get an infection in your nail bed if you bite your nails. You want to look for a moisturizer or a hand cream that has an ingredient in it thats a little bit more bitter than the rest, something that tastes maybe minty or something that will basically give you a bad, bitter taste in your mouth. This is basically meant to discourage you from biting your nails.
Also, just making a point to take care of your nails can be a deterrent. Once you see how gray your nails look, you might be less likely to bite them off because youve spent a lot typing here alone. What is Dermatillomania?
People who suffer from this condition, bite or pick their skin, leaving it red and bloody and that does not look attractive. Like biting your nails is an oral compulsive habit and its usually driven by nervousness. There are some just do it absent mindedly and carries many of the same infections and risks as biting your nails.
What should I do about calluses and dry, patchy skin?
Another common problem for hands and feet are spots and dry skin and calluses. While the bottoms of your feet are usually prone to being moist, the tops are likely to be dry. Excessive dryness if left untreated, can lead to scaly rough patches of skin all over your feet. The most common affected area is the skin just below the ankle. To get rid of the rough patches, use a pedro (ph) stone to gently scrub away the dead skin. Most likely, you wont be able to completely remove it all in one sitting without damaging your skin. So be patient and spread the removal over several sessions.
Why do my feet smell bad and how do I make them less funky?

Mix some warm water and black tea in a large tub enough to fit both feet. The tannic acid in the tea will kill the bacteria and dry out the sweat glands. Soak your feet for 30 minutes a day. Try for a week and see what happens.
