Linda Quinn from the New York Apples Association disccuses how to use apples to celebrate this New Year’s.

Linda Quinn: Hi! I am registered dietitian, Linda Quinn with New York Apple. Remember you New Years resolution from last year? Me neither. Statistics show that by February 1st most of us have abandoned our plans for change and what's the number one resolution, to loose weight.

If you are loosing the Battle of the Bulge, I've got a plan that may just tip these scales in your favor. One word, apples. That's right, it's not about giving or taking away restriction, deprivation all those nasty word that sound bad and they are even worse in practice.

No, it's about adding a simple and delicious food before each meal. In fact about 15 minutes before the meal. Don't take my word for it, let's look at the research. In a study published in Peer Review Journal, nutrition. Researchers found that women that ate apples three times a day lose an average of 3 pounds in 12 weeks. They also lower the glucose and cholesterol measures in their blood. So not only did they loose weight, but they improve there health too. This isn't some crazy fat diet where you loose weight and get seek. No, this is loose weight, feel great and improve your health.

In a follow-up study researchers at Penn State took 59 men and women and put them in a lab for lunch and dinner. What did they find? The people who ate a raw apple 15 minutes before meal, consume just under 200 calories less, it turns out that fullness they felt from eating apples kept them from eating too much.

Apples help us stop eating even when there is still food on our place. Think about how many calories you could save. So grab a bag of apples and maybe this year you'll finally keep the weight off.
