Dr. Elisa Mazzaferro: Hi! I am Dr. Elisa Mazzaferro with AAHA and today we're discussing how to find a veterinarian. Now we're going to discuss some questions to ask when selecting a veterinarian.
First, ask if their veterinary hospital is accredited by AAHA. Have they taken that extra step to make sure that they have met the standards of veterinary excellence?
How many veterinarians are on their staff? How many technicians are on their staff? And all of those technicians are the technicians certified or are they on-the-job trained?
If they are on-the-job trained how many years of experience do they have in helping treat your pest needs? What kind of pain management protocols do they use in their hospital? What are there anesthesia procedures and monitoring protocols?
Ideally, think about the quality care that you would want to receive if you have to go to an emergency hospital yourself or the quality of care that you want to expect from your general wellness doctor.
Once the veterinarian answers your questions if you are comfortable select that veterinarian or don't be afraid to shop around.
So I hope that this information will help you find the best veterinarian to fit you and your pets needs and help you and your pet with the happy, healthy life together.
Thanks for watching!
