This video series is all about sailing. Alex Schulte, sailing instructor for the Washington Sailing Marina, gives step by step instructions on how to sail.

Alex Schulte: Hi, I am Alex Schulte with the Washington Sailing Marina's Summer Sailing School and I am teaching you how to sail. I will be teaching you rigging and parts of the sail boat, basic maneuvering, wind direction, points of sail and sail trim, tacking and jibing, sailing up wind, capsize recovery and how to avoid a capsize and how to stop your boat and docking. Some things you will need to begin sailing include a life jacket, water, sunscreen, some form of boating shoes, a sail boat. We will be using a Sunfish and hopefully a little bit of wind. Sailing can be a dangerous sport. So, you want to be sure to bring a life jacket, a whistle and either go with a buddy or tell someone where you are going. Before we begin, let me tell you a little bit about myself. I am a certified level 2 instructor with US Sailing and I have been teaching for five years at the Washington Sailing Marina's Summer Sailing School where we teach over a thousand kids a summer at beginning intermediate and advanced levels. Now that you know a little bit about me, let's go ahead and start sailing.
