Sherry Tyra: Holiday decorating doesn't have to be overwhelming. By adding a few small simple touches throughout your home, you can easily transform your holiday dcor from ordinary to extraordinary.
Small embellishments can add the most holiday bang for your buck throughout your home. Inexpensive holiday garlands, bows and ornaments can be used to embellish anything from a hand towel to a chandelier. Add seasonal silk berries or flowers to everyday house plants to give them a festive touch. Try adding some holiday toss pillows for a punch of seasonal color.
Some of my favorite holiday decorations are homemade traditions. This Christmas tree was made by simply bending a wire close hanger and then using large ornaments at the bottom. You gradually thread more onto the wire reducing the size as you build. Finish your tower off with the glass tree topper and you have a fun and unique Christmas tree.
Paper snow flakes are playful and inexpensive too. Coat it with spray snow or iridescent glitter and hang it from the ceiling and you've created a cheerful adornment for any room.
To add a personal touch to your dcor a holiday mailbox is a great way to display your holiday cards. I painted an ordinary, inexpensive mail box screen, added some decorative decals and a holiday spray of greens.
Holiday decorating doesn't have to be overwhelming or costly. Take a look around your home and think about what you can add to ordinary items to give them that holiday flair. Be creative and have fun. Merry Christmas!
