Dr. Tina Alster: Hi, I am Dr. Tina Alster with the Washington Institute of Dermatologic Laser Surgery. Today I am going to talk about how women can take better care of their skin. There are literally thousands of skin care products on the market for women, in fact there are so many that even I as a dermatologist get confused. What I can tell you is that no cream is worth $500. Most women are surprisingly not on a good skin care regimen to fit their needs. I find that many of my patients who come to the office are using the same products that they were using in their 20's and now it's a couple of decades later. What I tell my patients to do, first and foremost, is to use a good cleanser to remove dirt, oil and debris from the skin followed by daily application of a sun screen which has adequate amount of moisturizer and last but not least to repair the skin at night, using a soothing moisturizer with a variety of antioxidants. The most important thing for women to remember is that it's never too late to start with good skin care, or to early. So that's the reason why, SPF or Sun Protection Factor is very important to apply on a daily basis. You don't need to spend hundreds of dollars in order to have good skin care. With a few basic items and a daily routine, your skin will have that special glow within a month.
