Nothing solidifies Winter like a great coat – and even though some cities are refusing to cool off this year (ahem, Los Angeles), we’re not letting that get in the way of our cold-weather outerwear. We headed over to Nordstrom at The Grove to show you the three coat styles you need in your arsenal right now.

Kirbie Johnson: Sarah Jessica Parker, Olivia Palermo and Suki Waterhouse have already stepped out in the Burberry checked cape, but what should you do to keep warm and stylish this season? I am here at Nordstrom at The Grove with my coworker Sarah Goodwin to show you the outerwear trends you need this winter.

So the first essential is the robe coat. We saw this on the runway at Altuzarra and Richard Chai. It's a really modern take on the classic silhouette. It's functional, it's warm, and it shows off your shape, which is great when it comes to outerwear.

We opted for a light gray version, because let's be honest, you probably have enough black jackets in your closet already. For the styling, we wanted a really minimal but chic look for the office so we played with grays and blacks and whites all over, gray sweater, black trouser, two tone Loafer and this fabulous bag.

The next item you need is a puffer jacket. These can be misleading. They do not need to be super oversized and bulky, look for one with a slim fit like this one that really flatters your silhouette. They are great for layering so perfect for wearing underneath a bigger jacket when it gets really cold or over your basic weekend outfit.

Here we went really girly and feminine, pretty buttoned-up a blouse with that ruffled hem, kind of a cool textured color pant for a poplar color, a cheeky kitty flap, these have been everywhere, like on Alexa Chung, and then finally a day bag; perfect for the weekend.

A black leather Moto jacket is a cool girl staple these days so if you don't have one, you have got to get one ASAP. They go with everything; they can be casual, they can be dressed up. So for this outfit we wanted to push the styling, we wanted something very edgy, so we went with leather, on leather, on leather; yes, three elements of leather, but here is why it works. The top has got this garment detailing that feels very tough and it has a high neckline, which we balanced out with a short miniskirt that shows off a lot of leg. If it's cold or you don't want to show too much skin, you can always throw on a pair of tights. Then for the accessories, we chose pony hair pointy booties for more texture and a poplar color with that hot pink clutch.

All of these chic outerwear looks are available at Nordstrom. Back to you!
