Kajal Mehta: Hi! My name is Kajal Mehta, Managing Director of Dhoonya Dance. Through this series, Bollywood Dance Basics, you are going to learn the second part of the verse to the song "Desi Girl".
[Music Playing 00:00:16 - 00:00:39]The knee is turned out and we are pulling in with the hip, taking it one, two, three, four. We want to make sure that we are actually using the hip to pull in and not the knee. The knee is just along for the ride. Now place the hand out, this is the same hand as the leg that you are using, the other hand across your body. This hand that's across your body, we will pull in at the elbow, taking it one, two, three and four.
Now a slight variation to that. This arm is going to slowly come up. So one, then, we'll bring it up slightly, two, a little more, three, four is all the way up. This is what I like to call rainbow arms or arc arms, because we are just going and opening across the body. So let's do both sides together bringing it in. One, two slightly higher each time, other side one, two, three, four.
From there we are going to do heal pumps. Pick up the leg and push down from the knee using your heal. One, two, three and four. You literally want to feel like you are pumping something with your foot. So make sure pushing from that knee, down bring it up, down, bring it up, down, bring it up, down and up. Then we'll switch to the other leg and the same thing, down, up, down, up, down, up, down, up.
Now, let's take those to single beats so that you are pushing down on each count. So four on each leg. We have one and two, three and four. The switch is fast, as I put the other foot down. Pick up, down two, three, four. We are going to add some arms. First we are talking about our feet, our walking. So we are going to take it one, two, three, four switch one, two, three. Then we are talking about our heart. We'll take it one, two, three four; one, two, three, four. And lastly, we are going to do the universal sign for crazy. But this isn't in a bad way. It's crazy in love.
So we are going to take it. One, two, three, four; one, two, three, four. So we have pushing the legs at the heart, then crazy. The final part of this segment, you are going to step out to one side, bending the other leg opening the arm. Then, we'll shift over to the other side, shift weight down opening the arm. So let's do that again. We open, leg is out, shift; open the other arm straight up.
