Valorie Burton for Focus on the Family discusses how to help your toddler equate exercise with fun so they enjoy being active at an early age.

Valorie Burton: When it comes to our children, good habits start early. But, does that mean taking your toddler to the gym. Maybe you shouldn't have your kids training on the bench press, but an exercise class for toddlers in preschools can be really important.

Exercise helps train the brain to do a variety of movements and activities. Plus by encouraging your child to exercise you are setting a habit that can last a life time.

It's important that kids equate exercise with fun. Many cities have play-gyms designed just for kids and there are even classes designed for preschoolers and their exercise together.

Of course you don't need a class to stay active. Any time you play with your kids, you are getting exercise. If you are not sure what to do, make something up, jump, chase, play tag, your kids will follow along and they will love it.

So, get off the couch, step away from the computer, resist the temptation to look at your phone and play with your kids, everyday, they share the activity at least to something else, quality time with mom and dad and that's a great habit for everyone to learn.
