Monique O'Grady: As much as half of the energy used in your home goes to heating and cooling. So replace heating and air-conditioning units or HVACs like this one with an energy star rated system. It can cut average energy bills by nearly $200 a year. And when you are getting new equipment, proper installation is key. Getting your units installed right can increase energy efficiency by up to 30%, which makes your equipment last longer and saves you money. And buy an AC with the highest seasonal energy efficiency ratio called SEER, the higher the SEER level, the more efficient the air conditioner. Also take care of your units by changing the filters often so they work less and you get more for your money. Some filters are reusable and the disposable ones are affordable. Be sure to clean or replace the filters at least once a month during the heavy heating or cooling seasons. That will keep your furnace fan from working overtime which leads to bigger energy bills.

It will also help protect your system from expensive repairs. So take care of your heating and cooling system and upgrade to an energy efficient one to save money and energy.
