Watermelon Drinks for the Family

    Watermelon can add fresh flavor to many types of drink recipes while providing low-calorie, high-nutrient health benefits. Watermelon easily blends into many types of beverages, from punches, lemonades and smoothies to teas and cocktails that can be accented with herbs and spices. Stephanie Simek from the National Watermelon Promotion Board is here to show you how the experts do it.

    Stephanie Simek: Hi! I am Stephanie Simek with the National Watermelon Promotion Board. I am here today to talk to you about how to make watermelon drinks with the whole family.

    Watermelon is a terrific ingredient and it easily blends into many types of drinks from smoothies and lemonades to adult cocktails and beverages.

    First, we're going to make the watermelon wine spritzers. This is a great adult cocktail. It's great for outdoor entertaining. Next, we'll make our watermelon yogurt mint smoothie which has a wonderful blend of mint and watermelon and you can have it for a breakfast drink or an anytime pick me up. Next, we'll move on to our watermelon raspberry lemonade. This is a sweet and tart treat. It's great at any meal of the day throughout the year. And finally, we'll end with our watermelon green tea punch. It's got lots of anti-oxidants and options to make it a party-punch for the whole family.

    All we need to get started is fresh watermelon. It's the basis for all of our watermelon recipes and especially our drink recipes here. But, we'll go in to the individual ingredients as we move along.
