Dr. William McCarthy: Hi! I am Dr. William McCarthy of the Northern Virginia Area Bariatric Consultants Weight Loss Center and today, I'm telling you how to overcome weight-loss challenges.
Now, I'll discuss why giving up is not an option.
When many people meet obstacles when they're trying to lose weight, they just quit. Unfortunately, they resume their old habits; they not only regain their lost weight but most people even add a few extra pounds.
Most of the time it's frustration, it may be stress, it may be a weight plateau and it may be just one bad day. And it leads to that attitude "What's the use?
" As a physician it's very disheartening to see someone, who has worked so hard to lose 50 or more pounds, gain it all back.
You have to remember, weight-loss is a process and it's a lifestyle change. Every pound we lose spells success. No one is perfect; it just requires perseverance. Whenever we lose weight, we lose some lean body mass. Whenever we regain weight it's mostly fat. So when we lose weight and regain back to our previous weight, we have more fat than we had when we started.
Just remember, it's common sense, you can't do what you were doing before and expect a different result. You'll need to monitor yourself for the rest of your life when you try to lose weight and maintain that weight loss; but remember, failure is not an option.
So I hope these strategies will help you to overcome your own personal weight-loss challenges. Thanks for watching.
