Dr. William McCarthy: Hi! I am Dr. William McCarthy of the Northern Virginia Area Bariatric Consultants Weight Loss Centre, and today I am telling you how to overcome weight loss challenges.

Now I'll discuss how to overcome weight loss challenge while traveling. Travel can be very tricky. First of all don't plan your vacations around where and what you are going to eat. If you drive don't pack anti-calorie snacks, don't fill up the car with goodies such as popcorn and chips and candy, bring healthy food.

When you pass those fast-food places try to avoid them or at least order something healthy. Now while on the road or perhaps staying at a hotel, start each day with a good healthy breakfast.

Plan activities in your day; don't spend your day stopping by little cafs and snack bars and ordering sugary beverages and fruits.

When you go out at night, make good dietary decisions. Try to remain active whenever you are on the road, walk your destinations, use a hotel gym if possible.

Now if you are visiting friends and relatives it's a different story, you are expected to eat and our friends and relatives go out of their way to make us comfortable. They want to make sure that we are full, they want to make sure that there are snacks on the table and plenty to drink, so what you need to do is to learn to say, no, thank you.

Maybe even tell them in advance that my doctor wants me to watch what I am eating. You maybe doing them a favor too because they may be just beating only because you are there; but in any case don't be a victim, don't feel that you have to eat because food is put in front of you. So that's how to overcome a weight loss challenge while traveling.
