Host: What are cognitive distortions and how do they affect stress?
Dava Money: Cognitive distortions affects stress a great deal. They are thoughts that are disordered. They are distorted. It's when we are seeing ourselves or the world in an unrealistic way. They may include all or nothing thinking, black and white thinking. They may include personalization, beveling we are personally responsible for everything in the world.
It may include maximizing our faults and difficulties and minimizing our gifts and strengths. It may include labeling ourselves based on a feeling. So if I feel inadequate, I begin believe I am inadequate. Cognitive thinking distorts everything that we perceive and adds a great deal to our stress. So it's important to begin to identify them and change our thinking.
