Host: What are the different types of fat?
Sarah Alligood: You hardly ever hear the good story about fats, but the good story is just as important as the bad story. So there are different types of fats, certain fats called unsaturated fats tend to have positive effects on your health. They can lower your cholesterol, these include polyunsaturated fats and monounsaturated fats. If it is too hard for you to remember those words, remember to just look for the 'un' as in unsaturated fats. Also, it is important to remember that while you should try to make, most of your fats come from these sources, it is also important that you have a moderate fat diet. So you should not be out there consuming all the fat you can, just because they do have positive effects. The positive effects occur within a moderate fat diet. The other types of fat, Saturated and Trans fat can make your cholesterol get higher than you like. So trying to keep them low in the diet will definitely help, but all types of fats do play a role in the diet.
