Publisher James Frey discusses the major book publishing requirements for conventional publishers.

Host: What are the major book publishing requirements for conventional publishers?

Jim Frey: Essentially, the major requirement is having a literary agent. So, you are going to need a literary agent to represent you if you are looking to get your book published at no cost to you by conventional publisher. You might need to ask the question, well, where do I find a literary agent. If you live in New York, it's not too hard; that's where the most of the literary agents in the country are, but if you don't live in New York, you could go to an internet search engine like Google, type in literary agents and see what results you might get for the city or area in which you reside. You can also look for literary agents in the yellow pages of the telephone book, but be forewarned, most of the agents are in the major metropolitan areas with the majority of those agents being in New York City and that area.
