Host: What are their options for finding affordable health insurance?
Bob Hurley: There are many options for finding affordable health insurance and in fact, many years ago the individual market was the topic of conversation amongst policy makers in Washington D.
C. and amongst the press and basically, what was happening many years ago back around the late 1990's is that the individual market was deemed to be dysfunctional, it was not affordable and the plans weren't sufficient for most individuals and families to get them covered for the kinds of things they need the coverage for.
So when the health insurance came to the web and consumers were able to go out and actually learn about health insurance and compare health insurance plans from some of the leading health insurance companies, what happened is the cover got peeled back from the onion so to speak and actually, what was there is a viable health insurance market. There are very good quality plans available for individuals and families to buy on their own. They can be very affordable if families are willing to mix and match their plans to their needs. They can actually get a plan that can be very affordable for their needs. So I think what's happened now with the internet is we have brought transparency to this market and more consumers are taking part in this market, finding plans that work for themselves and their families and in many cases, they are actually giving up their health insurance with their small business employer and going on their own and buying their own coverage.
