Michael Schade, PVC Campaign Coordinator with the Center for Health, Environment and Justice discusses what household cleaning chemicals you should be concerned about.

Host: What household cleaning chemicals should I be concerned about?

Michael Schade: The ones we should be concerned about are Ammonia, Bleach and Formaldehyde. In institutional settings, you want to look for cleaning chemicals that are certified as green. There is an independent certification company called Green Seal who has certified over 200 products and 37 product categories. What the the Green Seal certification does is they try to avoid chemicals that are most hazardous for our health, those that cause respiratory problems and other health problems among janitorial staff, among consumers, among children, so you can look for products that are certified as Green Seal safe.
