Host: What is divorce mediation?
John Spiegel: Mediation involves problem solving. It involves negotiations in which the two people negotiate, speak directly to each other with the assistance of a neutral facilitator. Neutral facilitator means that the mediator is pledged to be even handed and unbiased. So in mediation, the spouses themselves are the key players, they are not acting through agents. They are not having lawyers speak for them. They speak for themselves.
