College counselor Jerome A. Cole, MA discusses what the appropriate attire is for an interview, including being neat and clean and not over-dressing.

Speaker: What is the appropriate attire for an interview?

Jerome Cole: I think you want to be neat. You want to be clean in appearance. I think the things that you don't want to do, I wouldn't put on a student tie, unless I am someone who, as a 17-year-old I wear suit and tie everyday and most 17-year-olds do not wears suit and ties everyday. So be appropriate, have on a clean pair of slacks, if you are a man and a shirt with the color on it. If you are woman, a young lady should be dressed appropriately and they should be neat in appearance and they should be clean. Do not overdress for an interview. The one thing that you don't want to do is to walk in to an interview dressed in a way that you don't normally appear and you are going to be uncomfortable and that's going to come through in the interview.

So wear something that is comfortable, but something that is neat and appropriate.
