Host: What is the new writing section about?

Laura Rheinauer: The writing section of the SAT is the newest section and it was released in 2005 amidst concerns that the SAT really wasn't assessing the bigger picture of the students' abilities especially, looking at their writing ability. So now in the new writing section there is going to be an essay, you are going to be asked to identify sentence errors, improve sentences and improve paragraphs. Because this section is still relatively new it definitely encourages you to get out there and talk to the colleges and Universities that you are applying to, to see how they are using this score. Are they going to us it for placement for instance, in your freshman year English class or they are going to look at just your essay score and actually, get your essay that you wrote, they request that and see how you wrote your essay or are they going to look at sub-scores for the multiple choice. Talk to the college; see how they are using the writing section.
