Relationship expert Gloria MacDonald discusses dating and sex, including what you should do to protect yourself in a new relationship.

Host: What should you do to protect yourself in a new relationship?

Gloria Macdonald: This one is really tricky and it's not something that most of us are comfortable doing at all. But when you are in a new relationship these days you really have to protect yourself. You have to have a serious discussion with your potential new sexual partner and you really should both see certificates from doctors saying that you don't have any sexually transmitted diseases. Not easy at all, but it is just unfortunately stupid. You are playing Russian roulette. If you don't go down this road and you don't have an honest, open discussion, far better to know upfront that what you are getting into than find yourself in a situation where you are risking a deadly disease. It is just not worth taking the risk, no matter how madly in love you are with this man or this woman, don't do it to yourself. Don't play Russian roulette. Have the difficult conversation and make sure you are protected.
