Licensed Professional Counselor Karen Chopra explains the difference between skills and abilities when choosing a career field.
Karen James Chopra: I am Karen James Chopra, I am a career counselor in Washington DC. And now we are going to talk about how skills and abilities can help you choose a career that is right for you.

Host: What is the difference between skills and abilities?

Karen James Chopra: Skills are things that you have practiced and that you have learned to be good at. They are not something that you can do usually right out of the box. You actually have to spend time developing them. Abilities are things that you are naturally good at, you may get better at it with practice, but you tend to have an aptitude on your ability to do something. Some people tend to be good at math, other people tend to be very artistic and creative some people can see things in - especially very well and they will easily develop skills in that area but they have good base abilities. And that is the difference between skills and abilities. One tends to be a need of the other if something that you have learnt.
