Laura Rheinauer, Associate Director of Educational Connections, explains who scores the essay portion of the SAT.

Host: Who evaluates the SAT essay?

Laura Rheinauer: The SAT essay is going to be graded by two people. It's going to be either a University Professor or a High School English teacher. These folks are employed by College Board. They are going to give you a score on a scale of 1-6. Six being the highest one being the worst. They don't know each other. They don't know you. They don't see your name. They are going to read it and give it a score. If their scores vary by more than one point, a third reader is going to be brought in and this is really for your own best interest. I mean they are trying to keep this as fair as possible.
