Host:Why is it important to do self research?
Ron Faucheux: You have to expect in a political campaign that your opponents will attack you on any number of fronts and you need to have a sense of where they may attack, that is why self research is so important. If you have a legislative voting record, you need to understand it, you need to remember and have well-developed positions as to why you voted the way you did, in ways that you can explain in a clear way in a political campaign. Sometimes complex issues are tough to explain in a sound bite. So it takes preparations to deal with that and to do that. You have to have a sense of that your own business and personal affairs are in order and you want to get them in order; you want to be proud of your personal background; you want to be able to correct any mistakes that you may have made, so that you can explain to the voters what the truth is, what the facts are and self research is important to getting to that point, to look at your own background and do it objectively and to see where they can attack you, so that you have a sense of how to deal with that.
