Fitness expert John Basedow demonstrates how to workout at home if you’re a stay at home parent.

John Basedow: If you are a parent you know that kids take up a lot of your time, so if can be hard to find a moment to workout. If you are committed and prepared however, there are ways to squeeze in exercise whether your kids are around or not.

One of the easiest solutions especially for parents of small children are workout videos. There are many types of exercise videos out there from yoga to strength training or even dancing. Do it while your kids are napping or give them an activity so you can fit in a quick workout. There is no need to buy expensive equipment; you can get a full body workout without anything but you.

Seated scissors are great for your core. Sit on the edge of your couch or a chair, extend your legs out and crisscross alternating legs. Or try triceps dips. Sit on the edge of the couch with your hands next to your hips. Lift your body up and walk your feet out until your knees are directly above your heels and your elbow is about 90 degrees lowering your hips towards the floor. Then press your body up extending your elbows.

Looking to add some strength training but dont have the weights, try reverse flyes using two cans or bottles. Hold the cans and stand with your feet staggered keeping slight bend in the front knee. Bend forward slightly from the waist and slowly pull your arms out to the sides squeezing your shoulder blades together, then return to the starting position.

Also consider exercising with your kids. Whether you are pushing your kids in a jogger or tossing a baseball in the backyard, or going on a hike spending quality time with your kids while maintaining a healthy lifestyle can be the most rewarding form of exercise.
